Nathan Anderson
Nathan is the Head Coach and owner of DFC. He started fencing at age 15 and has been involved in the sport ever since. He has served on USA Fencing’s Board of Directors (2013-2015).
Nathan has an A rating in epee and in foil and has held a C rating in Sabre.
Nathan has won over 30 national medals, 8 National Gold medals, 2x National Champion, NCAA All American, and a member of 2 NCAA medal-winning teams when he fenced for the University of Pennsylvania, captaining the team his senior year. Nathan won the 2014 Pan American Championship, was a 2X National Champion, and is a 2023 World Team member.
Nathan captained the U.S. Vet Epee All-American and was a member of 2 NCAA medal-winning World Championship Teams, winning Gold in 2017. Nathan has coached National Medalists in every age group in USA Fencing and National Champions in Foil, Epee, Sabre.
Maciek Czyzowicz OLY
Maciek started fencing in Poland at 17 in 1979. He competed in the Modern Pentathlon, where he excelled in fencing. Maciek won 7 World Cup medals in Pentathlon between 1990 and 1996, as well as a Silver at the 1991 European Championships.
Maciek competed in the 1988, 1992, and 1996 Olympic Games and won a gold medal in the Modern Pentathlon at the 1992 Olympics. He was also the Polish National Pentathlon champion in 1985 and 1997. He is also a 3-time US National Gold medalist in Epee and the 2017 Veteran National Champion. He currently holds an A rating in epee.
Maciek began coaching in 2003 in Denver and, in 2009, founded the Rocky Mountain Fencing Academy, which has partnered with Denver Fencing Center to provide the highest level of epee instruction.
Chris Sauthoff
Chris has been fencing for 5 years and has accomplished a lot in that time! He holds a C rating in Epee and an E rating in Saber, is a USA Fencing Spirit of Sport recipient, and has won multiple National medals.
Coach Chris was still using a cane when he first walked through the doors of Denver Fencing Center. Having suffered a stroke, Sauthoff worked diligently at fencing, and the sport helped him with his recovery as he gained more and more muscle movement and functionality. Now, Sauthoff has paid it forward through coaching. He is the leader and central coach of the club’s program for adults with developmental disabilities, helping them prepare to fence in tournaments.

Henri Darricau OLY
Henri started fencing at a young age and comes from a fencing family. He was coached by his father, a renowned fencing coach, and trained with his brother, a fellow fencer. Under their guidance, Henri honed his skills and technique, eventually representing his country in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Henri's pursuit of excellence extended beyond the fencing arena, as he graduated from the prestigious INSEP in Paris, earning a Master's in Fencing, a testament to his scholarly approach to the sport.
Henri's fencing prowess transcends boundaries, as he has held A ratings in all three weapons. His ongoing active participation in the sport is evident from his six consecutive Veteran World Teams, and his consistent top-ranking in his age category. His fencing journey has seen him compete in the Junior World Championships, the Senior World Championship, the Olympic Games, and the Veteran World Championships, showcasing his diverse skills. In 2025, he added another feather to his cap by winning the USA National Championship for the second time.
Conrad Garcia
Conrad, a seasoned fencer, began his journey in his home country of Guatemala at a young age. His prowess as a foil fencer led him to represent Guatemala at numerous international competitions, a testament to his skill and dedication.
After his illustrious competitive career, Conrad's passion for fencing led him to diverse coaching roles. He pursued a coaching education at the prestigious INSEP in Paris and then returned to Guatemala to coach the national foil team. His journey continued as he coached epee at various clubs in California, showcasing his adaptability and experience, before finally settling in Colorado.
At DFC, Conrad's passion for fencing continues to thrive. He coaches both foil and epee classes, performs armory for club and personal gear, and referees competitions, all while sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience with the fencing community.
Haley Guida
Haley, a pioneer student at DFC, began her fencing journey in 2004, the year DFC was established. Her remarkable dedication and commitment led her to become the youngest coach ever certified by USA Fencing, attending Coaches College at the tender age of 13.
Haley's competitive spirit was evident during her 4-year tenure as a foil starter at Queen’s College, where she held a C rating in foil, showcasing her skills and knowledge in the sport.
Haley's dedication to the sport extends to parafencing, where she is a certified coach. She leads the country’s top parafencing program, teaching and preparing students in all three weapons. Her students' success is a testament to her inclusive and dedicated coaching style, with 4 National Championships won in 2022 and 2023.
Jason Mighell
Coach Jason teaches Beginning Adult classes in all weapons, private saber lessons, and coaches at National and International Competitions.
Jason is not just a coach; he is a competitive saber fencer himself. His impressive track record includes medaling in National and International fencing events. He has been the proud winner of the Colorado Cup for Veteran Saber since 2013 and clinched the Gold Medal at the 2017 Pan American Games as a member of Team USA in the men’s 50-59 Saber competition. His name also shines as a National Championship medalist. His achievements are a source of pride for the entire fencing community.
However, he is most proud of the number of students who started in his adult beginning class who are still fencing recreationally and competitively.
John Clayman
John's journey in fencing began at 10 years old under the guidance of head coach Nathan Anderson. After a hiatus, he returned to the sport during college and now serves as DFC’s Gym Manager, overseeing operations and ensuring a conducive environment for all. In addition to his managerial role, John also imparts his knowledge by coaching beginner classes and intermediate foil classes and by providing private lessons.
John's proficiency in fencing is evident from his ratings in all three weapons: a B in foil and a C in epee. His prowess has also earned him the title of a national silver medalist in Men’s Foil, a testament to his dedication and skill in the sport.
John's expertise extends beyond coaching and competing. He is a National-Level referee, holding certifications in all three weapons. His specialty, however, lies in Foil and Epee, where his keen eye and deep understanding of the sport shine.
Joe Greene
Joe's journey in fencing began at the age of nine at Nellya Fencers in Atlanta, Georgia, under the guidance of Hall-of-Fame fencing coach Arkadi Burdan. As a fencer, Joe's talent shone through, earning him several Cadet and Junior national medals in saber, and securing high rankings in both Junior and Senior points. This success as a fencer forms the solid foundation of his coaching abilities.
Joe's passion for fencing led him to Denver, where he transitioned from a fencer to a coach at DFC three years ago. He now leads our Competitive Saber classes, imparting his knowledge and skills to students of all levels. Joe's commitment to coaching has earned him a B rating, a testament to his dedication and expertise.
Under Joe’s guidance, his students have achieved remarkable success, earning numerous national medals and competing in various events across all divisions and ages. In 2025, Joe's fencing prowess was further validated when he finished the season as the #1 Vet 40 Men’s Saber fencer in the country, and was selected for the 2025 Vet World Championships team.
